Up next on court 12, British number four Jacob Fearnley faces 27th seed Tomas Etcheverry as he bids to reach the US Open third round for the first time.

Fearnley, in the main draw as a lucky loser following the late withdrawal of Joao Fonseca, looked down and out in his first-round meeting with Martin Landaluce, trailing 5-2 in the fourth set.

However, the 25-year-old roared back to win 10 of the next 11 games en route to a thrilling 4-6 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-3 victory.

It was a far from perfect performance from Fearnley, whose 45 winners were offset by 55 unforced errors (including 16 double faults), but he seized the initiative in the crunch moments, hitting a huge 30 winners to Landaluce’s 11 in the final two sets.

Fearnley, the world number 101, has never previously gone beyond the second round in New York but has reached round three at the Australian Open and French Open (both in 2025).

American Sebastian Gornzy is just about hanging on in his second-round match against Russian seventh seed Daniil Medvedev.

Gorzny saved multiple break points in the last game, which included a cheeky underarm serve, to keep his nose in front in the third set.

At two sets up, 2021 champion Medvedev would have been serving for the match if he had won that.

Jan Choinski is having an easier time of it on serve so far. Just the four points dropped across his opening three games.

Jan Choinski and Botic van de Zandschulp have never met on the ATP Tour or at a Grand Slam before, but they have played each other on the Challenger and Futures tour.

The Dutchman leads their head-to-head record 2-1, with their most recent meeting in 2025. That was a match to forget for Choinski, who won just one game.

The British number three threatens a comeback from 40-0 down on Van de Zandschulp's serve before gifting him the hold with an overhit forehand.

How do you even think about returning a 133mph serve?! Well, Botic van de Zandschulp managed it there - only to go long on an easier forehand shot a few hits later.

Another service game safely navigated by the British number three.

Jan Choinski and Botic van de Zandschulp aren't doing me any favours with their outfit choices today. The pair, who are both over 6ft 3in, are looking very similar in a white cap and shirt paired with dark shorts.

The Dutchman was under a bit of pressure there, but an inside-out forehand winner and a miss from Choinski see him through.

Pegula's been knocking on the door of that elusive Grand Slam victory.

It's unfortunate that the way her game is set up, she can navigate her way through the rounds and then when she arrives at the final stages of the bigger tournaments, she just doesn't have that winning ability to get over the line in a major final.

Third seed Jessica Pegula is into the third round after a straight sets win over fellow American Sofia Kenin.

Pegula won 6-3 6-1 in just under an hour to set up a third-round tie with Canada's Leylah Fernandez.

Fernandez, who was a finalist at the US Open in 2021 when she lost to Emma Raducanu, beat Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4 6-1.

Botic van de Zandschulp was rallying from 40-0 down, but Jan Choinski holds him off with a move to the net.

An important service hold to get him off the mark.

Jan Choinski was one of the very few British players that made it into the second round at Wimbledon this year.

He beat the Czech Republic's Vit Kopriva in straight sets before losing to Frances Tiafoe, although he did take a set off the 17th seed.

Jan Choinski is the first Brit in action.

At 30-years-old, this will be just his second appearance in the main draw at the US Open and his fifth overall at a Grand Slam.

And, as the world number 76, it is also the first time he has not had to go through qualifying or rely on a withdrawal to make the main draw.

The German-born Brit will be hoping to claim his first win at an overseas Slam today when he takes on Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands.

The pair are warming up now so play should get under way in the next few minutes.

Five Brits are in action around Flushing Meadows on day four:

• Katie Boulter is scheduled fourth on Stadium 17 for her second-round meeting with seventh seed Karolina Muchova.
• Jan Choinksi's delayed first-round tie against Botic van de Zandschulp will be the second match on court five.
• Fran Jones follows Choinski on court five, resuming her rain-interrupted first-round match against Magda Linette with a one-set lead (6-4 0-0).
• Toby Samuel completes a trio of Brits on court five, facing 18th seed Jiri Lehecka for a spot in round three.
• Jacob Fearnley is also in second-round action, with his match against 27th seed Tomas Etcheverry second up on court 12.

Welcome along to day four of the 2026 US Open!

After the rain wreaked havoc yesterday, we have got a jam-packed schedule to get through today - with plenty of first-round matches still to come after they were suspended or postponed.

It's looking a lot brighter in New York today, so hopefully we'll have no interruptions!

Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz are in action in the night session, but we're going to turn our attention to the five British players who are playing today.
