  2. What's happened so far on day one?published at 19:22 BST

It’s been a mixed day for the Brits. Fran Jones fought back from a set down to beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 – her first Grand Slam main draw win – but Emma Raducanu is heading home after losing 6-0 7-6 (7-4) to Solana Sierra.

Elsewhere, number two seed Alexander Zverev came through his first-round meeting with Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets but Tomas Etcheverry became the first men’s seed to fall. The 23rd seed lost to Nuno Borges 6-3 6-4 6-2.

Karen Khachanov, Jakub Mensik, Jaoa Fonseca, and Alejandro Davidovich all advanced to the second round, although Spanish 21st seed Davidovich did need five sets to see off Damir Dzumhur.

In the women’s draw, all of the seeds have so far come through unscathed, including straight-sets wins for Belinda Bencic, Mirra Andreeva, and Marta Kostyuk, who dedicated her win to Ukraine.

Nothing will replicate the matches you need going into a Slam. She's undercooked and it's understandable.

It will take time to build back up again.

This season has not gone to plan so far for Emma Raducanu, and she is clearly lacking in match sharpness after spending three months off the tour.

But there were some positive signs as she grew in confidence and belief towards the end there. Let's hope she can get some important minutes out on court over the coming weeks before Wimbledon.

If there was a positive to take out of this - and there were plenty of negatives, some of the lowest level tennis I've seen from her in a long time - but the one thing she did was fight and get back into it.

At one stage I thought she had a great chance to get into a final set. Who knows what would've happened if we'd got that.

She did enough to put the frighteners up her opponent.

She made it an interesting match but I think we didn't expect too much, did we?

From 6-0 4-1 and 30-0, there was genuine fight from Raducanu. But the damage had been done.

Raducanu exits in the first round for only the third time in a Grand Slam.

Solana Sierra screams with delight as she completes victory over Emma Raducanu with a final backhand winner after 100 minutes under the intense sunshine on court 13.

There were much better signs from British number one Raducanu in the latter stages of the second set, but it proves too little too late.

I'm not 100% convinced with Sierra's serve. A lot of double faults. She's pushing it.

Nicely done by Emma Raducanu, who holds her nerve on serve to pull back within a point of Solana Sierra from 5-1 down.

But Sierra fires a winner cross-court for match points...

Shottt. Solana Sierra unleashes a ferocious backhand down the line as she opens up a 5-1 lead.

Once again she has a place in the second round within reach - but Emma Raducanu is still scrapping away.

What a tussle that last game was. You felt the momentum was shifting towards Raducanu but some surprising errors.

You saw the celebration from Sierra. It meant a lot for her to get through that game.
