And there'll be plenty of Brits to keep an eye on, with Katie Boulter, Toby Samuel, Billy Harris, Harry Wendelken, Jacob Fearnley, Katie Swan, Arthur Fery, and Jan Choinski in singles action.

Novak Djokovic, speaking about his daughter creating a new celebration for him, after his four-set win against Wu Yibing: "I used last year's celebration - the violin - because I'm still waiting, it's a work in progress. She's still thinking about the choreography. Maybe she will be inspired after tonight.

"Having my family is a blessing for me here, to be supporting me this late - even though it's past bed time and we'll have to talk about that. I think it's an exception tonight."

  6. 'It felt really challenging today'published at 22:33 BST 29 June

Novak Djokovic, speaking after his four-set win against Wu Yibing: "Obviously it's better when you win in the end. It's not the first time that I'm showing and talking about the significance of Wimbledon in my career and my life.

"It felt really challenging today, Wu deserves a round of applause for his incredible performance. As for how I'm feeling, I'm feeling happy but not the freshest I guess. It didn't feel like the first round to be honest.

"It felt like we played two different matches; one with the open roof and the closed roof. It affects the conditions and the moisture of the grass it becomes more slippery so, you kind of have to adjust and adapt to that but it's not easy because once you're in the point you want to give your best.

"He put me under a lot of pressure. I've never faced him before; I knew that he loves hitting the ball very flat and very aggressively from the back of the court and he loves protecting the line. But he definitely surprised me with the level of every shot he had in his game from his return serves, forehand, backhand and at some point he didn't really have a weakness.

"I was lucky he missed the overhead and break point and I probably should have lost that fourth set as he had many break points.

"Playing on this surface, this kind of matches are decided in few points and few shots. Thankfully I have the experience of the last 20+ years of playing on this court that can help me a little bit and manage the situation

"It would be nice to combine the experience with a young fresh body - that would be the winning formula."

He's done it, holding to love in the final game of the match.

I'm not quite sure how Novak Djokovic has done that. He was second best for much of the fourth set, but every time Wu Yibing looked to have his nose in front, Djokovic yanked him back.

Djokovic only had one break point in the fourth set and he converted it. Wu had six but couldn't capitalise.

Poor Wu Yibing. He recovers once, twice, puts in a dive as Novak Djokovic drives him into the corner of the court but has no chance of getting up the court to recover a drop shot. 30-0.

You've got to love what Djokovic does, this guy is amazing. You love him or hate him, you have to respect him - he brings fire, intensity, desire and love to the sport.

I've seen hundreds of times and you still look at him and go 'wow, this guy still wants it this bad'.

He drags Djokovic back and forth across the baseline but he keeps returning, keeps returning, until Wu sends his backhand long.

What a stunning shot of the crimson sunset. It seemed so appropriate watching the end of the Djokovic match: he too is reaching the end of his glorious career, but still has a while to go before he slips from view.
