New investment talks ongoing says Gloucester CEO

Gloucester chief executive officer Alex Brown says there are "talks ongoing" about new investment in the Prem club.

The Cherry and Whites' most recent set of accounts, for the year to June 2025, showed an increase in losses from £516,355 to £2.91m.

"There is interest in Gloucester Rugby but our shareholders and board are very sensitive to who that investment might be," Brown told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"It has to be right for the club, for the future and we'll take every opportunity that comes but there are talks going on about further investment."

In May, Gloucester owner Martin St Quinton told the BBC there was "more appetite" to invest in Prem rugby now promotion and relegation had been formally scrapped for the 2026-27 season.

In the past 12 months, three of the 10 clubs have secured major new investment.

Newcastle were taken over by energy drinks giant Red Bull, Bath secured major backing from billionaire James Dyson and Exeter Chiefs most recently were bought out by Bournemouth football owners Black Knight.

Despite Gloucester's losses increasing significantly in their most recent accounts, Brown said his message to fans was to "not worry".

"I don't think there's any concern with Gloucester Rugby's health," he said.

Brown pointed to a number of factors which impacted the latest accounts, including issues around central revenue from the Rugby Football Union and the academy licence which renews every 20 years, which he said "changes the picture".

"There is prospects in the future for sure but we've just got to concentrate on what's in front of us which is a new group of players, a great new coaching team and I think we'll see a great performance on the field."

Gloucester endured a disappointing 2025-26 season, finishing eighth in the table and largely seeing their campaign over before it had really begun due to a run of nine losses in their first 10 Prem games.

However they completely revamped their coaching structure over the spring, bringing in Chris Boyd and Rob Burgess and moving George Skivington from a director of rugby role to head coach.

New backroom staff in Joel Tomkins, Brett Deacon and Ryan Bower have also come in.

The playing squad has also been bolstered this summer with Wales captains Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan among those moving to Kingsholm.

"I feel like we've got a really complete team now and for the first time in a long time I feel like not just on-field, off-field as well we've got some really strong leaders," Brown said.

"Across the board we're in a good spot."
