Huddersfield appoint ex-player Lenihan as coach

Huddersfield Giants have won just two games in Super League this season, but one of those came in their shock win at Wigan

Huddersfield Giants have appointed Jim Lenihan as their head coach after the departure of Luke Robinson.

Super League's bottom side have been without a permanent head coach after Robinson was sacked on 22 March.

Former Gold Coast Titans assistant Lenihan joins having previously played for the Giants in 1999, when he made 21 appearances.

"The Huddersfield Giants received some outstanding applications from candidates, but it was Lenihan's vision for the club, which aligned with the club's," a statement said.

He joins a side which has lost eight of their 10 Super League games in 2026 and are two points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Robinson replaced Ian Watson in 2024, and went on to lose his first nine matches in charge before earning a narrow victory against Hull FC at Magic Weekend last May.

Hampered by financial limitations, Robinson eventually guided the club to 10th in the final Super League standings last year, but was replaced on a temporary basis by Liam Finn until his successor was found.

Finn negotiated a shock win at Wigan in his first game in charge and followed that with a win at newly promoted York soon after.

Huddersfield have since lost three games in a row in a season that has also been hampered by injuries.
