Halifax crush Leeds to seal back-to-back trebles

Jack Brown scored six tries for Halifax Panthers as they crushed Leeds Rhinos 64-24 to win the Wheelchair Super League Grand Final and clinch back-to-back trebles.

Brown's England team-mate Rob Hawkins bagged four and Super League's top two try scorers were unplayable at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester.

Brown finished the season with 67 tries - just three behind Hawkins.

Leeds had the temerity to score first and they led 8-0 after 14 minutes through a Nathan Collins try, conversion and penalty, before Halifax took control.

Hawkins broke through to score, before Brown displayed his speed and guile to score a hat-trick inside 13 minutes and stretch Halifax's lead to 22-8.

Hawkins ducked inside to score his second before he used his pace to collect a kick from player-coach Wayne Boardman, who kicked 10 conversions, to complete his hat-trick just before half-time.

Leeds responded and Josh Butler reached out to touch down before Collins darted through to give Leeds some hope at 36-20 after 52 minutes.

But back came Halifax and Brown showed his pace to score two tries, before Cian Horgan touched down in the left corner.

Tom Halliwell scored for Leeds before Hawkins bagged his fourth try in the final minute to seal Halifax's historic success.
