Chelsea set a deadline of Friday, 14 August at 17:00 BST for offers for Manchester City target Enzo Fernandez.

Nothing came and Fernandez was involved in the Blues' first game of the Premier League season against Fulham.

However, Fabrizio Romano has reported that City will submit a formal offer for the 25-year-old before the end of the window.

Although Newcastle's young side came within seconds of defeating Liverpool on the opening weekend, there was always going to be work to do before the window shut on 1 September.

Newcastle have made six signings so far this summer in goalkeepers Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen, defender Amar Dedic, midfielders Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur and forward Bazoumana Toure.

But Matthias Jaissle made it clear that "adjustments need to be done and will be" in an interview with BBC Sport last week.

After reluctantly selling talisman Guimaraes to Arsenal, Gonzalez possesses the qualities Newcastle have been looking for in the middle of the park.

This is a player who would have been potentially out of reach not so long ago.

Of those midfielders who played a minimum of 900 minutes in Europe's top five leagues last season, Gonzalez led the way for high turnovers per game (2.13).

He also ranked in the Premier League's top five midfielders for line-breaking passes per match (12).

Those traits - in and out of possession - could make Gonzalez an invaluable addition as he is handed a greater role at St James' Park.

Tottenham have agreed a loan deal to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with an obligation to make the deal permanent for £60m next summer.

The 27-year-old Egypt international follows Savinho from City to Spurs after signing the Brazilian joined in an £85m deal on Tuesday.

Marmoush joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt last January but had to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland for much of his time at Etihad Stadium.

Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £52m for Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

Newcastle have signed players exclusively from the continent up to this point in the window, but the club have recognised the need to add some Premier League experience after losing Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier in recent months.

Gonzalez has only spent a season-and-a-half in the Premier League after signing from Porto, but the 24-year-old fits the age profile Newcastle have been targeting as someone who could still develop further under head coach Matthias Jaissle.

Liam Delap emerged from Manchester City's academy and had loan spells at Stoke, Preston and Hull before joining Ipswich in 2024 for about £20m.

The 23-year-old scored 12 goals in 37 top-flight appearances for the Tractor Boys and was tipped as a future England international.

A factor in his £30m move to Chelsea not working out was the Blues also signed Brazil forward Joao Pedro.

Liam Delap is understood to have accepted his form last season fell below expectations, with the 23-year-old scoring just one Premier League goal.

Although there were mitigating factors.

Chelsea endured a troubled campaign where they finished 10th in the table, Delap played under three different managers and suffered hamstring and shoulder injuries that affected his physical style of play and contributed to a loss of confidence.

His priority is to gain regular first-team football.

Nottingham Forest have agreed a club-record fee worth around £50m to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap.

The 23-year-old is expected to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract at the City Ground this week.

Delap's move comes a year after he joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30m amid competition from Manchester United and Everton.

However, Chelsea made him available for sale this summer after he scored just one Premier League goal in a previous campaign disrupted by shoulder and hamstring injuries.

Forest have already signed defender Ousmane Diomande from Sporting for £34m, alongside free agents, Austrian midfielder Xaver Schlager and goalkeeper Steve Benda.

They sold England midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for a club-record £116m and striker Taiwo Awoniyi to Coventry City for £9m.

Delap's arrival would provide competition for strikers Chris Wood and Igor Jesus, who failed to find the target in Forest's 1-0 defeat by Leeds in their home Premier League opener on Saturday.

Chelsea have also signed two strikers this summer in Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg and Danny Welbeck from Brighton.
