Not necessarily a Chelsea fan but now's the time to bring Palmer back in, and as much as I like Rogers he has to realise Saka is the better option.

I feel he will add Cole Palmer into his squad. He could be an extra boost in the attack to try to cross balls in to Kane if he gets in or try and have a shot.

Image source, Getty ImagesTwo of the biggest names omitted from England's World Cup squad were Cole Palmer and Phil Foden, who missed out amid the plethora of attacking midfield talent at Thomas Tuchel's disposal.
Palmer missed out after a below-par campaign for a below-par Chelsea side, although he scored 11 goals in 34 games. He struggled with a groin injury as the Blues finished 10th in the Premier League.
This season Palmer looks rejuvenated under new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. He has scored four goals in six games across all competitions and has played all but seven minutes of the Blues' league campaign so far - will that earn him a place back in the England squad?
Foden meanwhile has had a quieter start - no goals in six games across all competitions for Manchester City, although he did provide two assists in the 4-1 league win at Crystal Palace.
He was sent off in the first half of City's derby win at Manchester United - but any suspension will of course not apply to international football.

Rio Ngumoha is hoping to earn his first call-up today. The Liverpool winger, 18, was part of a group of young players that travelled to America ahead of the World Cup for England’s pre-tournament training camp in Florida and even made his debut coming on as a substitute in the friendly win over New Zealand. But, if selected, this would be his first proper call-up into the senior squad.

Before naming his full squad, Tuchel was required to submit a preliminary squad of players from which he will name his final party.
It is understood Lewis Hall of Newcastle, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly and Everton pair Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite are among the names selected in Tuchel's extended list.
Hall's World Cup omission raised eyebrows given England entered the tournament without a natural left-back.
Attacking duo Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are on there too, after being two of the biggest omissions from Tuchel's squad for the World Cup.
That decision was deemed a mistake from certain circles, given they are two of English football's most creative players.
Meanwhile, Tuchel is expected to omit Jordan Henderson, Dean Henderson and John Stones because of injury.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is set to be named in England’s first full squad since the World Cup.
Scott has scored a goal so far in the Premier League this season. on Thursday, he made an assist in Bournemouth's Europa League win over Real Sociedad.
The 23-year-old has made appearances for England's various youth teams since 2021.
He was called up in November 2025 by Thomas Tuchel but did not make his debut then.
Scott joined the senior men's team for squad preparation before the 2026 World Cup.

One to keep an eye on this morning is Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. He was named in the provisional long list of players and Thomas Tuchel had been impressed by the centre-back’s display since the start of the season. With John Stones expected to be injured, Branthwaite could prove a solution for Tuchel.

I'd forgotten about the international (extended) break. That's my day (and subsequent weekends) ruined.

Previously, there were three breaks of two weeks in September, October and November for international football, with nations generally playing two games in each window. That has changed in 2026-27.
Instead of separate breaks in September and October, there is now a three-week gap for international fixtures across late September and early October with four matches being played.
This is in part due to the later start to elite domestic football season this year; with the 2026 World Cup final taking place on 19 July, most top divisions did not resume until mid to late August.
Usually the first international break takes place in early September. By pushing it back, it allows players are longer time before they cross continents to represent their countries again. It also avoids the possibility of pausing domestic football just one or two games after their seasons start.
The readjusted schedule also allows for an extra week of domestic football between the end of the first break and the start of the second in November.

Would love for Tuchel to take Klopp's approach. Pick two squads and split the games. Having such a long international break so soon after a disrupted summer it is of a benefit to England that our players are kept fresh. It will also allow Tuchel to see more players.

Thomas Tuchel regrets not eating any of the grass at the Azteca Stadium after England's World Cup win against Mexico.
His Three Lions beat the co-hosts 3-2 in the last-16 tie in July, despite playing much of the second half with 10 men following Jarell Quansah's red card.
England went on to reach the semi-finals, where they lost to Argentina, before beating France in the Bronze medal match for third place.
Tuchel, though, made a bizarre admission during an interview with Daniel Sturridge for the FA's forthcoming feature 'Reflections: England's World Cup Journey'.
He said: "I texted a friend after the match and I just wrote, 'I regret that I didn't eat some grass after the match to keep something from this in my body forever'. That was the feeling. That was the moment."
