Rangers assistant manager Alan Archibald tells BBC Scotland: "It's been a bit manic over the last couple of weeks, a lot of comings and goings.

"A good strong squad to pick from. You see that today with some guys missing out.

"[Kevin Kelsy is] a wee bit different to the other strikers. He's got a physicality, he'll run in behind, he's a real athlete and hopefully he'll hit the ground running and hopefully get some minutes today.

"[Badredine Bouanani arrived] a bit later. He's not done any pre-season with us. He just got there yesterday morning for a training session. He'll get a couple of days with the fitness guys. He'll be ready for Wednesday night [against St Mirren].

"[Motherwell are a] good footballing team. We need to make sure we stop them. At the same time, we've got to really play our game. Our front four players have been really good recently. We need to get the ball as much as we can and obviously exploit the gaps that Motherwell leave".

Everyone is playing catch-up in the second tier after surprise leaders Stenhousemuir's 1-0 win away to Livingston, one of the pre-season favourites, last night.

The promoted part-timers are now five points clear of Partick Thistle, who are without a win in three outings - but unbeaten in 13 at home - as they entertain Ayr United, who are themselves without a win in four.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are without a win in five as they host Raith Rovers, while Queen's Park have not won in four as they entertain a Greenock Morton side who drew away to Ayr last week after seven straight defeats.

On-loan Derby County midfielder Owen Eames makes his Falkirk debut, with DJ Fodrey dropping to the bench.

Will Ferry is missing for United after recent transfer speculation about the left-back, with Kevin Ciubotaru starting in his place for his first Premiership start.

But on-loan Rangers midfielder Lyall Cameron starts and former Falkirk midfielder Dylan Tait also returns.

And, on the subject of the SFA proposal, there are two Scots in the United starting XI.

Like Rangers, opponents Motherwell make two alterations to their starting XI.

Australian defender Jake Girdwood-Reich and attacker Ibrahim Said start, with Jamie Knight-Lebel and Seb Palmer-Houlden dropping to the bench.

In terms of young Scots, 21-year-old defender Euan Williams is on the bench. Former Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry, who starts, and substitute goalkeeper Matthew Connelly and defender Stephen O'Donnell are the other Scots.

There's no place in Rangers' starting XI for new signing Kevin Kelsy but the Venezuela striker signed from Portland Timbers is on the bench.

Fellow deadline day recruit Badredine Bouanani does not make the squad.

In terms of changes to the starting XI, manager Derek McInnes, who serves the second of a two-match touchline ban, selects Dujon Sterling at right-back and Dan Neil in midfield.

Kosta Nedeljkovic misses out and Cammy Devlin is on the bench.

And, on today's hot topic of young Scottish players, there is one under 21 in the squad - winger Findlay Curtis in the starting XI. There are four other Scots in the squad - Liam Kelly, Ross McCrorie, James Penrice and Lawrence Shankland.

Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann changes three from the disappointing 1-0 loss to St Mirren on Wednesday night - and he reverts to a back-four.

Jamie Brandon comes in at right-back, Aaron Tshibola comes into midfield, while striker Djenairo Daniels makes a first league start in almost a year after a bad knee injury.

Johnly Yfeko misses out completely after coming off at half-time through the week, while Mark O'Hara and Tyreece John-Jules are on the bench.

Two Scots start in the XI, with a further three on the bench. On-loan Rangers midfielder Bailey Rice is one of those substitutes and the only under-21 player.

Aberdeen head coach Stephen Robinson changes four for the visit of Kilmarnock, with centre-back Dan Happe passing a fitness test to return in defence.

On the wings, Tony Yogane and Lewis Smith are welcomed back. That's despite Robinson saying Smith's "fitness levels need to be much, much better" after the midweek defeat to Celtic.

There's also a start for forward Mitchy Ntelo in place of Ayoub Mouloua, who is on the bench along with Mats Knoester, Gavin Molloy and Alexander Briedl.

New goalkeeper signing Daniel Klein is on the bench.

Given all the chat today about this SFA proposal, it's worth nothing there are five Scots in the starting line-up and another two on the bench. Of the seven, midfielder Findlay Marshall is the only player under the age of 21.

With the top three not playing until tonight or tomorrow, Rangers and Motherwell both have the chance to move up to second above St Mirren with a win at Ibrox.

Kilmarnock are still seeking their first point as they host Aberdeen, while Falkirk are yet to win as they visit Dundee United.

Among the hot topics on Sportsound is the Scottish FA's proposal for financial incentives - and penalties - along with quotas to persuade clubs to play more home-based under-21 players.

SFA chief football officer Craig Mulholland is a guest and will be getting grilled on that.

Also being debated is the SPFL's decision to have no away supporters for Celtic and Rangers derbies in the Scottish Premiership or Premier Sports Cup this season.

Meanwhile, Steve Clarke has been quoted as saying he had to cajole the Scottish FA into handing him a new contract as national head coach shortly before the World Cup finals this summer because he felt the governing body was hedging its bets.
