Investment in Bristol City speculation says Boss

Bristol City chief executive Charlie Boss has said he will not comment on potential new investment in the club as it is currently only speculation.

Greek gaming tycoon George Daskalakis, co-founder of the group behind online betting brand Betano, was reported by Sky Sports last week, external to be in advanced talks to buy a stake in the Robins.

"If at some point in the future Steve [Lansdown, club owner] agrees terms with an investor, of course we'll tell fans and in the spirit of transparency we'd do it as soon as we can," Boss told BBC Radio Bristol.

"But anything before that we are just commenting on speculation. It's much like players in the transfer window - the questions I get asked most is 'Is X coming, is Y leaving?' and most of the time the answer is 'We don't know yet'."

Lansdown has been affiliated with his hometown team for 29 years, taking over as chairman in 2002, and has put almost £300m of his own money into the club during that time.

He has spoken openly in recent years about being open to seeking new investment at the club, but Boss stressed - as Lansdown has previously - that it must be the right person.

"You've all seen the commitment the Lansdown family have to this club over the summer, they've really put money into the squad, they've given us all the support we needed," Boss said.

"Steve has always been open that if we were to ever get investment his first criteria is the right people for this club and this community, and that hasn't changed."

Boss was appointed in February and has overseen vast change at the Championship side since then.

James Ellis was appointed sporting director and Michael Skubala manager, following the sacking of Gerhard Struber and Roy Hodgson's brief spell in the dugout.

There have also been nine new players signed this summer including strikers Dom Ballard and Lorent Tolaj, while four have departed including Max Bird and Ross McCrorie.

Boss said it is "definitely possible" for more business to be done before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

"I feel we're in a really, really good place as we stand here today, but I definitely wouldn't rule anything out," he said.

He added that could mean more players departing, with captain Jason Knight the biggest name linked to a move away from the club in recent weeks.

Although Boss stressed the club wanted Knight to stay, he said they did need to look at the "balance" of the squad.

"[We need to] make sure we've got the right people in the right positions and we haven't got too many people in some places," he said.

"We need to have a team that can really gel and be harmonious."
