Beating Cardiff 'massive' for Yzzy Taylor's Swans

Swansea City boss Yzzy Taylor was delighted with her side after they defeated rivals Cardiff City on the opening day of the Adran Premier season.

The Swans secured a comfortable 3-1 win at the ThermaGlaze Ground, thanks to goals from Chloe Chivers, Emily Richards and an own goal from Cardiff defender Shannon Evans.

The impressive result halted Swansea's seven-game losing streak against the Bluebirds, to the relief of their manager.

"Yes, it's a great feeling, especially being at home as well with the amount of fans that were here today," said Taylor.

"I thought it was a great environment for us to play in, but also to nip that streak in the bud is huge.

"I think you go into your first game and you want those three points. It really sets the stall out, and for us to do that against our local rivals is massive, it's a really good first step."

The result was even sweeter for the Swans after they threw away a three goal lead against the Bluebirds in April's Welsh Cup final before losing on penalties, a huge disappointment Taylor believes they have learned from.

"We had momentum going into that second goal, I think for us to score early again in the second half was great," said Taylor after Sunday's success.

"For us it's a learning curve from where we were last year in terms of the Cup final.

"We were 3-0 up and could not ride that out, but today being able to get that across the line is huge. We've challenged the players constantly about their resilience.

"I saw a group of players that didn't want to let that happen again today and we saw that. For us, it was bodies on the line, it was people being switched on enough to manage the game when we needed to."

Taylor's side travel to Aberystwyth Town - who lost 4-0 to defending champions Wrexham on Sunday - and she says they will not get ahead of themselves as they look to challenge for the Adran Premier title.

"We've got to take each game as it comes. We'll put our best foot forward and make sure that we're prepared and ready for that."
