Walsall interim head coach Darren Byfield is to leave the League Two club when his contract expires this summer.
The former Saddlers striker and first-team coach took over for the final 10 games of the season after the departure of Mat Sadler in March.
His tenure started with a five-match unbeaten run, including two wins, but the Saddlers lost four of their final five games to finish 13th and miss out on the play-offs.
The former Aston Villa striker played 152 times for the Saddlers in two spells before moving into coaching.
Byfield, 49, worked with Crawley Town before Sadler recruited him as first-team coach in the summer of 2023.
"He has a strong affiliation with the football club and is someone who well and truly wears his heart on his sleeve," said a statement on the club website., external
"From representing us on the pitch to navigating through the ups and downs of football from the technical area, Darren has led by example and will rightly go down as an important part of our history.
"As we prepare for a new chapter, the time and effort that has been put in by Darren is greatly appreciated and it goes without saying that he will always be welcomed back to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium with open arms."
