Crawley Town have appointed former Leeds United and Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell as their interim head coach.

The 67-year-old will take temporary charge of League Two's bottom side, who sacked Colin Kazim-Richards on Wednesday.

Blackwell has not held a managerial role in England since being sacked by Bury in October 2013 but has held coaching roles at a string of clubs, in England, Thailand and Poland.

"We have made significant progress in recruiting our next permanent manager and are working hard to conclude that process," a club statement said.

Blackwell had been assistant manager of Leeds United when they were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2003-04 season, and was appointed manager that summer.

He took them to the Championship play-off final in 2005-06, which they lost, and was sacked a few weeks into the following season.

Blackwell had a 10-month spell in charge of Luton, before taking charge at Sheffield United between February 2008 and August 2010.

He then managed Bury between 2012 and 2013, before spells as a technical director at Crystal Palace, and a coach at Barnet, QPR, Rotherham United, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough.
