Gary Setchell has resigned as manager of non-league Corby Town in the wake of players and staff having to take pay cuts.
The 50-year-old led The Steelmen to the Northern Premier League Midlands Division play-offs last season before losing to Worcester City.
His assistant Darren Eady has also left Steel Park, with the club currently sixth in the table.
"With budget cuts and numerous other issues, there's only so long you can put the fires out. At some point you have to know your worth," Setchell posted on X.
The former Wisbech Town, King's Lynn Town and Bedford Town boss was appointed by Corby in January 2023.
His final game in charge was a 1-0 defeat at Lichfield City on Saturday.
A brief statement on the Corby website said: "The club can confirm that Gary Setchell has resigned as manager of Corby Town with immediate effect.
"We would like to thank Gary for his time as manager of the club and wish him well with his future endeavours."
Corby play in the eighth tier of English football and the departure of Setchell - who once played in the English Football League for Rushden & Diamonds - comes just six days after the club said it had become impossible to maintain the same playing budget as last season.
"Attendances have been lower than expected, operational costs across the club have risen significantly, and despite constant efforts to bring in more volunteers, sponsors and support, the financial gap has continued to grow," a statement said., external
"To help the situation, the entire squad and management team have voluntarily taken a pay cut, showing their commitment and determination to keep the team competitive. Their willingness to stand with the club during this challenging period reflects the unity and spirit within the dressing room.
"The reality is that the club cannot continue in its current financial position. The owners have personally absorbed losses in the region of £80,000 per year, and this is no longer sustainable for the long-term future of the club."
Corby's next game is at home to Coleshill Town on Wednesday.
