Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley will not feature again this season after suffering a broken leg in training.

The 20-year-old only returned to action in April following a two-month spell on the sidelines with a separate leg injury.

But the Magpies say he is set for another stint in the treatment room after fracturing his right fibula in training on Tuesday.

Miley will travel to a specialist consultant on Wednesday before continuing his rehabilitation with the club's medical team.

The academy graduate is expected to be back for the start of pre-season, in July, but his campaign has been ended prematurely - just as he was settling back into the side.

In a period when head coach Eddie Howe made a host of changes, Miley was, tellingly, one of a handful of players to start each of Newcastle's past four games.

Having initially lined up in the middle of the park, Miley has once again filled in impressively at right-back since Tino Livramento hobbled off in the 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth last month.

Kieran Trippier, who is leaving the club in the summer, now looks set to be recalled for the trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
