Swindon Town defender Billy Kirkman has signed a new deal with the club, which will see him remain at the County Ground until at least the end of the 2026-27 season.

The 22-year-old appeared 15 times for the Robins last season, scoring one goal in a 3-1 defeat against Shrewsbury

It will now be a case of the defender continuing his development in Wiltshire, having signed on a free transfer from The New Saints two summers ago.

He is considered a key asset to Swindon's squad given his ability to play in a variety of positions.

Robins boss Ian Holloway said: "Billy is a young lad who's still learning his trade, but we see real potential in him. He's versatile, he works hard every day, and he wants to improve, and that's all you can ask for.

"He hasn't had loads of game time yet, but that's part of development. What matters is how he trains, how he listens, and how he keeps pushing himself, and he's doing all of that really well."

Town spent much of the League Two season in the hunt for automatic promotion, but a run of just one win in their final seven games saw them miss out on the play-offs completely following a final-day defeat at home to Chesterfield.
