  1. Aus 41-0published at 12 overs

Good response from Coetzee, testing Matt Renshaw with a maiden. The last ball nips back in and beats Renshaw's defence, so there is still something out there for the bowlers if they can get it right.

This is every ball from Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen in the first 10 overs.

Too short and a bit too wide from South Africa's opening pair to the two left-handers?

  3. Aus 41-0published at 11 overs

This opening session is repeating yesterday's so far.

It looks like a glorious day for batting, as Travis Head plays a stunning cover drive for four off Rabada.

I fancy the look of this opening pair. Time Marnus made a big one!

  5. Aus 37-0published at 10 overs

Change of bowling, as Gerald Coetzee replaces Marco Jansen.

Travis Head looks keen to take him on, crashing the second ball of the over for four but then he gets in a bit of a tangle against a shorter one, nearly dragging it on to the stumps.

  6. Aus 32-0published at 9 overs

    Ouch.

Matt Renshaw misjudges a bouncer from Kagiso Rabada and is pinned on the shoulder. He shakes it off with a wry smile.

This has been a very good start from Australia. Exactly what they needed.

  8. Aus 31-0published at 8 overs

Glorious shot from Matt Renshaw, driving Marco Jansen straight down the ground for four.

He's looked very comfortable at the top of the order so far, having scored 190 earlier in the series batting at number five.

That shot takes Australia's deficit under 300.

  9. Aus 26-0published at 7 overs

Better from Rabada, just a single off the over as he plugs away outside Renshaw's off stump.

    Four more!

Travis Head is playing a risky game but it's effective so far. He flashes outside the off stump again and carves Marco Jansen for four, but that one wasn't particularly short or wide. It flies past the fielder diving at point, drawing cries of anguish from Jansen and the slip cordon.

  11. Aus 20-0published at 5 overs

    Productive start for Australia here.

Travis Head whacks his first boundary behind point as Rabada strays a little too wide, and the South African quick keeps him on his toes with a sharp bouncer in response.

Fancying Jofra and co against this batting line-up in the Ashes….hopefully not famous last words.

  13. Aus 15-0published at 4 overs

As I say that, Matt Renshaw takes Jansen for two boundaries.

The first is a little lucky, flying off a leading edge, but the second is a beauty, flicked off the pads towards square leg. Lovely timing.

Just a couple off Kagiso Rabada's second over but Marco Jansen certainly looks like the more threatening of the two in these early stages.

  15. Aus 5-0published at 2 overs

Marco Jansen, on the other hand, is immediately into his stride. The all-rounder his having a brilliant series.

He tests Renshaw with a maiden, beating the outside edge twice and forcing him to sway out of the way of a well-directed short ball to end the over.

  16. Aus 5-0published at 1 over

A loose start from Rabada, unusually. He offers Renshaw a full toss outside the off stump, and Australia's new opener thumps it to the boundary for the first runs of the morning.

South Africa's innings had a bit of everything yesterday. Their openers dominated the first session remarkably, adding 158 for the first wicket before Australia's indefatigable seamers roared back.

Renshaw and Head make their way to the middle in the Cape Town sunshine. Kagiso Rabada has the new ball in hand.
