Nepal beat Jersey by 81 runs in a rain-affected one day game at Grainville.

Having lost the toss Nepal made 246-8 in 49.2 overs having lost almost two hours to rain in the early afternoon before their innings was ended by the weather just before it was due to conclude.

In reply Jersey recovered from 59-8 off 19.4 overs to end on 169 all out as Charlie Brennan hit 82 not out.

The game is the first of four one-day games in Jersey over the next few weeks - Nepal face the islanders again on Wednesday before playing the United Arab Emirates on 27 and 29 July.

The matches are part of preparations for Jersey's final ICC Challenge League event due to take place in Qatar later this year.

George Richardson bowled Nepal opener Asif Sheikh for 16 in the seventh over to see Nepal on 26-1.

But his fellow opener Kushal Bhurtal and Bhim Sharki impressed with a second-wicket stand of 122 before Sharki was bowled by Ben Ward for 39 to leave the visitors on 148-2 off 28.3 overs.

Nepal added a further 10 runs before rain stopped play after 31 overs, but when they returned Jersey took two quickfire wickets.

Rohit Paudel was caught off Dan Birrell's bowling for 16 while Ishan Pandey was stumped for one to leave the Nepalese on 177-4 off 36.1 overs.

Bhurtal reached his century off 113 balls and went on to make 105 before being trapped lbw by Nick Greenwood at the end of the 40th over.

Eight balls later Greenwood took the wicket of Aarif Sheikh for 11 as Nepal slipped to 200-6 off 41.2 overs.

Ward took another wicket as Henamt Dhami ended on 19 not out for the Nepalese when their innings ended.

Jersey‘s reply was decimated by Dhami’s superb bowling as he took the first four wickets.

Having seen Patrick Gouge caught for 6 in the fourth over Dhami claimed the scalps of Nick Greenwood (6), Zak Tribe (0) and Jonty Jenner (0) in the sixth over as the islanders slumped to 30-4.

Jersey's batters continued to struggle - opener Harrison Carlyon was caught for 20 having hit two fours and a six in his 36-ball innings as Jersey put on just nine more runs in 5.2 overs.

Brennan and Jake Dunford offered some resistance, putting on 14 for the sixth wicket.

But Jersey again collapsed as they went from 53-6 to 59-8 inside 20 overs as Aarof Sheikh claimed Julius Sumerauer for a first-ball duck and Ward for 1.

Brennan went on to score top score as he and Birrell put on an innings-high stand of 106 before the latter went for 41 off 50 balls.

Jersey were eventually bowled out after 41 overs as Brennan hit seven fours and a six in his 111-ball knock of 82.
