Glamorgan held on for a 53-run win over Leicestershire after Lauren Parfitt's 73 helped set the visitors a tough target of 264 in the One Day Cup in Cardiff.

Becki Brooker (45) and Ellen Watson (60) gave their side a chance, but two wickets each for Anna Mae Shearn, Gemma Porter and Bethan Ellis, plus two run-outs, meant the Foxes fell short on 210.

Captain Parfitt led from the front as usual in the home side's 263-7, while Sara Phillips and Gemma Porter added key late runs with 67 for the eighth wicket.

It was Glamorgan's second win on successive Sundays at Sophia Gardens as they prepare for life in Tier One in 2027.

Glamorgan won the toss and made a solid start as Parfitt shared stands of 40 with Flo Sharman (16 off 17) and 55 with Bethan Ellis (25).

But with spinner April Herathge, the sixth bowler used, taking two quick wickets the Foxes kept themselves in the hunt on a sticky used pitch.

Parfitt's measured strokeplay took her past a second half-century in as many matches before she was fifth out with the score on 170, chipping Indira Singh to mid-on after yet another invaluable innings.

Megan Sturge, the 21-year-old Kent product on loan from Hampshire, struck a lively cameo of 34 off 33 although with nearly all the visitors' bowlers taking wickets, it seemed Glamorgan did not have enough in hand to launch a final assault.

But Phillips (39 not out off 42) swung selectively with solid support from Porter (32 not out) as they made the most of the closing overs.

In reply, Leicestershire stumbled to 39-3 in 12 overs as seamer Shearn hit the stumps twice in her opening spell.

Brooker and Ellen Watson stopped the slide with a half-century partnership, but the visitors needed to score at seven an over for the second half of their innings.

Brooker was run out trying to pinch a single to Bethan Gammon at cover, but that sparked Watson into a higher gear, hitting the only six of the game, as Leicestershire briefly kept pace with the demanding rate.

Hard-hitting Watson fell on 157, reverse-sweeping Porter to point, while Ellie Phillips (26) was run out by keeper Sturge chasing a ramp shot back behind her and finding Sara Phillips alert on the stumps as Glamorgan won back control.

Debutant Charlotte Lambert, a 19-year-old England age-group player signed on a season's loan from Surrey to give them an extra seam option, finished with 1-43 in nine overs.

Glamorgan captain Lauren Parfitt told BBC Sport Wales:

"I'm happy with the win but overall there's definitely more to come from our team, both batting and bowling.

"Today we were probably at 70-80 percent. There's a lot more preparation from all teams leading into any game in terms of analysis, the skillsets of batters and batters, and that makes the game better.

"I'm always happy to score runs, that's my job. It was probably our most important partnership (between Phillips and Porter), they grafted and we needed that to get us to 260 which we thought was a good score. Without that, it would have been a lot tighter."
