Former England spin bowler Monty Panesar has signed to play for West Midlands village side Pelsall this summer.

The 43-year-old appeared in 50 Tests, 26 one-dayers and a T20 international and took 709 first-class wickets during his professional career.

"Obviously we are delighted to get Monty to Pelsall, he will give us some extra quality on the pitch and hopefully even more know-how off the pitch," said first XI captain Danny Pennell.

"For a club our size, it's a major coup for us and we can't wait to see him in Pelsall colours next weekend at home to Wombourne."

Luton-born Panesar began and ended his career with Northamptonshire, either side of spells with Sussex and Essex.

He made his England debut against India in 2006 and his last Test came seven years later in an eight-wicket defeat by Australia in Melbourne.

Last year he played for an England Masters team in a six-team International Masters League in India, taking four wickets in five games.

Pelsall play in the South Staffordshire Premier League in which they finished eighth last summer.
