Northamptonshire all-rounder Justin Broad has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season with a lower back injury.

The Germany international has played just nine first-team games this season and has been unable to bowl due to the problem.

South-Africa born Broad, 26, signed a new two-year deal with the club in September, with head coach Darren Lehmann labelling him a "future leader".

"This has been an extremely frustrating season for me on a personal note and I'm really sad it's come to an end," Broad told the club website, external.

"However, it's been great to see the boys doing so well and I'll be supporting them in the upcoming months as we push for a strong finish to the season."

Northants are third in County Championship Division Two and are also leading the T20 Blast Central & West group after winning nine out of 10 games, already securing a place in the quarter-finals.

They next make the trip to Somerset on Friday (18:30 GMT).
