The Phillies look like they are just going to squeak through for you Paul. Once you're in the post-season anything can happen.

There is a reason they are known as the kings of the fightback this season and the Diamondbacks are doing it again here.

A third run in the seventh inning comes from a Lars Nootbar single to score Tim Tawa.

The problem is that things are not going to plan in Philadelphia. The Phillies have a 7-3 lead with just three batters left for the Rays.

The Diamondbacks are not giving this one up and at the top of the seventh the fightback is on!

Nolan Arenado leads off with a double before Corbin Carroll does the same to send Arenado home and make it 4-2.

Then a single from Tim Tawa is enough for Carroll to make it home from second base too.

The Diamondbacks are now within one run. They still need something special from the Rays against the Phillies, but at 7-3 that game could just about still swing in their favour.

The Padres respond immediately to restore their three-run advantage.

Freddy Fermin arrows a ball beyond third base and into the corner for a double to bring Austin Hays home from third base.

The Diamondbacks are hanging in there.

Jordan Lawlar starts things off with a single in the sixth inning before stealing second base and reaching third on a groundout from Lars Nootbaar.

That sets it up for Ketel Marte to bring Lawlar home with a line drive to right field.

The Snakes need a massive swing still, but you never know.

A third inning in a row with a run for the Padres as they extend their lead again.

A groundball from Ty France gets through the infield this time allowing Dustin Harris to score from second base.

Meanwhile the Phillies have added to their lead over the Rays and are 7-1 up in Philadelphia.

Things get harder still for the Diamondbacks as the Padres add another run.

This time it comes from the bat of Gavin Sheets, who launches a home run to centre field as the first batter up in the inning.

The Padres are sailing into the post-season in good form as things stand, but unless something changes the Diamondbacks are missing out.

The Padres strike first at the bottom of the third inning.

Sung-Mun Song gets on base with a walk and the Padres manage to advance him to third at the cost of two outs.

Manny Machado then steps up with a line drive single to left field to drive in the run.

Things are not going as they need to for the Diamondbacks either in San Diego or in Philadelphia, where the Phillies have a four-run lead over the Rays.

Here we go then. It all comes down to this for the Diamondbacks. They have Lars Nootbaar at the plate. Randy Vasquez is pitching for the Padres.

Ten teams have booked their place in the post-season already, leaving just two places to be decided on the final day.

In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies hold the advantage in the race for the final Wild Card place by one game ahead of the Diamondbacks.

That means the Diamondbacks must win against the Padres and hope the Phillies lose at home to the Tampa Bay Rays to steal that final Wild Card spot by virtue of their better head-to-head record with the Phillies.

In the American League, the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers are locked level in the West Division.

The Rangers must get a win against the Minnesota Twins and hope the Astros lose in their trip to the Athletics to take away the Division title and make it into the post-season.

It's complicated and it all means there may well be some late drama this afternoon.
