So a win for the Mets in our first MLB Bases Covered Live match of the season.

All over at Citi Field as the Dodgers fail to make a dent in the Mets lead in the final inning.

Those two three-run home runs from Tyrone Taylor and Marcus Semien in the sixth and seventh innings took the game away from the Dodgers and ensured the Mets avoided a sweep in this series.

The Dodgers now travel back to Los Angeles for a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners and the Mets welcome the Braves for their own three-game series.

One inning left for the Dodgers and the Mets find themselves just three outs away from the win.

Another three-run home run for the Mets and they now have a comfortable lead over the Dodgers.

It comes from Marcus Semien who launches a flyball out to left field which just about has enough to clear the wall.

Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco both score along with Semien and the Mets now lead 8-3.

Now the mistakes are coming from the Dodgers, and the Mets are taking advantage.

With AJ Ewing on third base, Dalton Rushing is unable to bring in a fairly makeable catch from a pitch inside from Will Klein.

As the ball gets away behind home plate, Ewing is on his way to score and make it 5-3.

Here come the Mets!

At the bottom of the sixth inning Tyrone Taylor steps up to the moment and smashes a home run out to left field for the home team.

Carson Benge and Luis Robert Jr. both score before Taylor himself rounds the bases.

In one swing of the bat the Mets turn this one around to lead 4-3.

In the wake of that odd moment the Dodgers are able to add a third run to the board.

Edman scores from third base after a line drive from Teoscar Hernandez hits Peralta's glove.

The Mets defence was far from secure during that run of play with first baseman Jared Young making errors on two plays that led to the run.

A bizarre moment as first base umpire Alfonso Marquez gets in the way of a ground-ball from Dodgers batter Tommy Edman.

The ball smashes into Marquez's knee and even though he's putting on a brave face he's clearly feeling it.

More importantly for Edman, the ball ricocheted straight to the Mets fielder, so that has cost Edman a clean run at second base.

Not something you see often in baseball, or in any sport really.

The Dodgers score and now take the lead at the top of the third inning.

Freddie Freeman line drives to left field for a double to bring home Eliezer Alfonzo after he got on base with a double of his own.

Then Max Muncy grounds out to help Andy Pages score from third.

That leaves it 2-1 in New York.

The Mets take an early 1-0 lead at Citi Field as Francisco Lindor drives home AJ Ewing from second base with a single to right field.

A good start for the Mets as they look to avoid being swept in this three-game series.

Shohei Ohtani leads off with a double for the Dodgers to quickly put Freddy Peralta under pressure, but the pitcher manages to get himself out of trouble with three outs to leave Ohtani stranded at third base.

Here we go then. Shohei Ohtani is at the plate for the Dodgers. Freddy Peralta is on the mound for the Mets. We are ready to play ball.

The big news for the Mets is that Juan Soto picked up a calf strain in the opening game of this series on Friday.

He is expected to miss at least three weeks and the next 15 games for a Mets side that is already struggling at the bottom of the National League East.

The Mets make three changes to last night's line-up with Jared Young, Tyrone Taylor and Luis Torrens coming in.

For the Dodgers Ohtani starts things off as Designated Hitter, while the only change to yesterday's winning line-up sees Eliezer Alfonso replace Dalton Rushing at Catcher.
