There were two lower league wins and the makings of a third in the south section of the Artemis Macaulay Cup.

Bute eliminated Col Glen 3-1 and Aberdour ejected Oban Celtic 2-1, while Kyles had to come from behind to defeat Glasgow Mid Argyll 5-2 and Oban Camanachd beat Inveraray 3-1.

In the North, holders Kingussie progressed 6-2 over Lochaber, Fort Willam beat Caberfeidh 2-0 in Strathpeffer and that was also Newtonmore's margin over Kinlochshiel.

Two first-half goals from Josh Cowan and one from Robert Lowrie after the interval at Clachan of Glendaruel put National Division Bute firmly in the driving seat.

Murray McClymont's response for visitors Col Glen, promoted to the Premiership this season, was too little too late.

David Murray broke through for Aberdour and while Duncan MacEwan equalised for Celtic, David MacKenzie scored the Fife side's winner in the second half.

Although Luke Thornton gave Kyles an early lead, Ross Brown and Calum Morrison had second tier Glasgow Mid Argyll ahead within half an hour at Tighnabruich.

However Thornton's second and a goal from Ethan Kerr put the Premiership side back in front. Kerr again and Scott MacDonald, both in stoppage time, eventually sent the tie beyond Mid Argyll.

Daniel MacCuish fired 2025 runners up Oban Camanachd ahead early on, and while Coll MacKay quickly replied for Inveraray, Lewis Cameron put Camanachd back in front equally promptly.

However the game wasn't put to bed until Cameron's second, nine minutes from time.

Lochaber's Stuart Callison created a shock for the holders after just five minutes but Ruaridh Anderson, and Roddy Young with a double, struck back for the home side to make it 3-1 at half time.

Max Campbell reduced the deficit but Kingussie's two-goal cushion was restored by James Falconer, who then completed a double before Savio Genini rounded off the scoring.

Brodie MacBean in the first half and Struan Ross in the second sent Newtonmore through at The Eilan and similarly Lachie Shaw then Hamish Shaw did the same for Fort William.

An early double from Marc MacLachlan sent Lovat well on their way to a 3-2 Mowi National Division away success over local rivals Beauly, keeping the Kiltarlity side well in touch with leaders Glenuquhart.

In the HIS Sutherland Cup, shinty's reserve championship, holders Fort William progressed 3-1 at Inveraray and evergreen veteran Glen MacKintosh scored two in Newtonmore's 5-0 victory over Caberfeidh.
