So, Sunday again? This week the day-glo glory of Doll and the Kicks descended upon the live lounge. A gang of five pretty young things with the four chaps, Curly Wurly, Floppy Top, Mini fro' and Shaven, (collectively - 'the kicks') rightfully positioned behind the Platinum Princess herself, our Doll. This post-punk-popette quintet played a lively and varied set. Much to our Phil Jackson's disappointment they left out the man-hating revenge track we enjoyed some months back that won the demo panel, (we won't go into Phil's fondness for angry women here) and brought along three fresh slices of power-pop. With vocals somewhere between Gwen Stefani and Kate Bush, bold time changes, glorious melodies and the occasional Santana-esque guitar solo Doll and the Kicks are never dull. Click the link on the right to hear one of their tracks. Another product of the ever-powerful Brighton Institute, Doll stands proudly forward and demotes her 'kicks' to the status of backing boys. Hugely energetic and fun to watch a Doll and the Kicks show should be coming to a venue near you so get yr leopard-print leggings on and enjoy!
