Emily travels from Devon to London to find the flat where her great aunt Eva was murdered in December 1935. Standing at the door, she confronts the reality of what happened there ninety years ago. Social historian Professor Pat Thane helps Emily understand the stigma and limited choices facing a single mother like Eva in the 1930s. Emily also follows in Agatha Christie's footsteps to her London home in Kensington, where a blue plaque marks where the novelist lived from 1934 to 1941. Christie expert Dr Mark Aldridge describes a woman at the height of her powers. Then, at the London Archives, Emily uncovers the original coroner's report into Eva's death: 63 pages of witness statements, post-mortem records and inquest findings. Among the documents are surprises about Eva's family life, a statement from her daughter Ruby, and conflicting evidence that raises new questions about what really happened that night.
