Horden residents win breakthrough in demolition fight

Available for over a year

Residents celebrate major breakthrough in fight against council plans to demolish homes. Villagers have secured a judicial review of regeneration plans in Horden. The £10.7m project, approved in December 2025, would demolish homes on three numbered streets and build 100 new houses. Residents opposing the demolition raised enough funds to challenge the plans, and a High Court judge has approved the case for a full hearing to decide whether the plans should be overturned. The Reform UK-led council said its plans would "improve quality of life for local people" through higher housing standards. Helen Richardson reports.
