In this episode, Jean and Carl break down what comparison really means in a GCSE English Literature exam. They explain how to identify similarities and differences between texts, and - most importantly - how to explore why writers present ideas in similar or different ways. This episode was made in collaboration with the National Theatre and features actor actor Nina Cassells. For more information on the National Theater, go to: https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/learn-explore/ Using example poems, they model how to compare themes such as 'power' and 'control' and demonstrate how even short lines of text can reveal contrasting writer perspectives. Listeners are introduced to practical sentence starters and connective phrases that help structure comparison paragraphs clearly as Jean and Carl demonstrate how to use words like “whereas”, “however”, “similarly” and “in contrast” to link ideas smoothly. Suitable for: AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas and OCR. Presenters: Jean Menzies and Carl Anka Featured actor: Nina Cassells Producer and Sound Design: Marc Rigg Executive Producer: Becky Green This series is an Audio Always production
