Neets: The young women struggling to find work

Today

Available for over a year

Almost one in eight 16-to-24-year olds are not in education, employment or training (Neet), according to the latest official figures. The numbers are down 7,000 from a year ago, but at 923,000 across the UK there is a continuing problem. Today has looked at how young women have been affected by being out of work or education long term. Nick Robinson spoke to Susannah Hardyman, CEO of the charity Impetus, about why young women struggle to find work compared to men the same age. Today producers Katie Haseldine and Nabiha Ahmed followed 19-year-old Ra’eesah, who has been looking for work since leaving college last summer, as she attended an event in Manchester linking young people with national employers.
