2. How to write a good essay

Bitesize GCSE History

Available for over a year

In this episode the focus is on understanding how to write a strong historical essay. Katie and Datshiane will help you understand the various essay types, such as factor essays, statement essays, and agree-or-disagree questions. These types typically require presenting multiple arguments or exploring different factors to provide a well-rounded answer. A critical aspect of writing a good essay is maintaining a clear structure. This might involve beginning with a paragraph that agrees with the question, followed by one that disagrees, and then a third paragraph that groups examples into themes or factors. Throughout, it is important to include specific knowledge to support your arguments. Katie and Datshiane will also talk about PEEL. It’s a great way of remembering how to structure those argument paragraphs. Point, Evidence, Explain and Link. Additionally, forming sound judgments and ensuring accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and grammar (SPAG) are useful for achieving higher marks.
