The World Health Organisation's project aiming to eradicate polio worldwide. The aim of the WHO is to rid the world of polio in the same way it did with smallpox in 1980. The disease is still prevalent in 30 countries but an intensive vaccination programme aims to make sure all newborns and children are immune to the virus.
