From Amsterdam’s Dutch Summer Concerts, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson joins the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali for Beethoven’s 'Emperor' Piano Concerto. The Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, directed by violinist Michael Waterman, perform Brahms’s masterly First String Sextet, a work of great warmth, lyricism and youthful energy. And from the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Ensemble Correspondances, directed by Sébastien Daucé, offer more gems from the 18th Century and the French Baroque. But we begin at the Edinburgh International Festival, with the Czech Pavel Haas Quartet performing Korngold - a richly lyrical quartet from a composer best known for his great Romantic film scores.
