A lifelong collector of Panjabi folk vinyl, Beant explores some of the singers who shaped the genre, from Surinder Shinda, Kuldeep Manak and Gurdas Maan to Surinder Kaur, Chamkila, Amarjyot and Didar Sandhu. Alongside the music, Beant shares the personal stories behind his collection, including the records passed down from his Nana Ji. The grooves worn into those records reveal the songs his grandfather returned to time and time again, giving Beant a window into his musical tastes and a way of feeling close to him. From tales of love, heartbreak and village life to songs that capture the experiences of women and the power of the folk tradition, Beant celebrates the raw emotion, storytelling and voices at the heart of Panjabi folk.
