However, it wasn’t until 1907 that the first foundation stone of the Cathedral was laid with construction then taking eighty three years to complete. The central tower holds a peal of ten bells that was installed in 1963 by the Whitechapel Foundry of London. The Tenor weighs thirty two hundredweight and is tuned to D.
