In Common Ground, Evan Davis travels around the UK to find out how divided we really are. The series asks whether our society is becoming increasingly polarised and what people across the country are doing to build stronger communities and connections. In this first episode he begins with place. How are we divided by where we are born and where we choose to live? Do we have a proper sense of national identity? How can places where residents feel overlooked be better served, and more connected to the country as a whole? Evan travels to Grimsby in Lincolnshire and Briton Ferry in Wales to talk to people in their communities. He’ll also be joined by an expert panel to discuss the role of place in how well we live together: playwright James Graham, and Fiona Hill, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in the US and former official of the National Security Council during President Trump's first term, and the current Chancellor of Durham University.
