Alex Hitchcock’s Flowers

'Round Midnight

Available for 29 days

This week, Soweto is joined by London-born saxophonist and arranger Alex Hitchcock. He is a distinctive improviser whose compositions draw deep musical and political inspiration from the radical tradition of Black American music. He is also part of the band LVDF, who listeners may remember performed at our 'Round Midnight showcase at the London Jazz Festival last November. From Monday to Thursday, Alex is celebrating some of the contemporary artists that have influenced him, for Flowers. To begin his week, Alex gives a first bouquet to a renowned saxophonist, flautist and composer. Also in the programme there’s music from Takeo Moriyama, Luke Rivard and Ernestine Anderson. ‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades. To listen on most smart speakers, just say: 'Ask BBC Sounds to play Round Midnight.'
