Tuesday night is Rewind Selector night, where a musician, celebrity or Good Groove listener chooses the tracks that take them back to the dance floors of their youth. Tonight, it's the turn of 80s British Soul pioneer Carl McIntosh. Born and raised in West London, Carl fell in love with jazz, funk and soul music at an early age, and in the late 70s, along with Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol, he founded Loose Ends. The group very quickly became trailblazers of the British soul movement. Their breakthrough came in 1985 with the release of the genre-defining ‘Hangin’ on a String (Contemplating)’. It was their highest charting UK single, and the song that helped them become the first UK act to top the US Billboard R&B chart. In 1990, after five albums together, Jane and Steve left the group and were replaced by Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman. Loose Ends still perform to this day and this weekend the group are performing at Love Supreme Jazz Festival at Glynde Place in East Sussex. Melvin wraps things up with a Midnight Feast track.
