In their Welsh surgery, Denny and Manson are as busy as ever with inadequate funds to treat all their patients. They dream is the formation of a National Health Service but will it ever happen. Christine, now a teacher, struggles with the arrival of the new Headmaster while her husband, Andrew is coping with his workload and travelling to London to attend BMA meetings where he argues for a public funded health service. Meanwhile a painful memory from the past returns to Denny when he goes in search for the son of a new patient.
