Sean Cooney of The Young'uns on Peter's Field
The Folk Show with Mark RadcliffeAvailable for 23 days
The best folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond. Sean Cooney from The Young'uns talks about Peter's Field - a musical exploration of the 1819 Peterloo Massacre. At a time when less then 11% of men (and no women) had the right to vote, a crowd gathered in Manchester to hear about voting reform. The cavalry charged, killing eighteen and injuring hundreds. Peter's Field explores the event through new folk songs written by Sean. They feature on a new album performed by Sean with Eliza Carthy, Sam Carter and Jennifer Reid. Plus, there's another chance to hear Olivia Chaney's beautiful version of the Dark Eyed Sailor, recorded live for Mark's Folk Show in 2013. This exact Radio 2 session performance has been selected by Emerald Fennell for the soundtrack of her new film, Wuthering Heights. Produced in Salford by Pomona Audio for BBC Radio 2.
