Somerset resident Van Morrison played at Glastonbury for the first time when he kicked off last year's Musical Extravaganza weekend. Jools Holland and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra also performed.

"The Extravaganza is great fun. It has a fantastic party feel, and it's a really special occasion"
Michael Eavis

The 2004 event saw an extra night of music added for the first time as well. Michael Eavis obviously enjoys his three-day festivals at Glastonbury, as this year's eclectic line-up also runs over three nights.

Speaking to bbc.co.uk/somerset, Michael said: "We had a year off the Glastonbury Festival in 1996 and I got a phone call from the Abbey asking me if I wanted to do something there. So I got hooked in my year off, and I've been doing it ever since.

"This is the 10th year we've been doing it for, and it's going to be fantastic."

Classic soul

Nigel Kennedy (image courtesy: Ann Cook)
Nigel played at the Extravaganza in 1998

Fresh from playing the Pyramid Stage and the Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury Festival last year, Devon soul singer Joss Stone will be performing on Friday 5 August.

Joss released her first album, The Soul Sessions, in 2003. By the summer of 2004, it had sold more than two million copies worldwide.

More recently, Joss won two Brit Awards, taking Best Female and Best Urban Artist. Her latest album Mind Body and Soul went double platinum, and if that's not enough, the 17-year-old has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards.

Nigel Kennedy is widely regarded as one of the world's leading violin virtuosos. He first played the Abbey Ruins in 1998, and after magically disappearing into the crowd at the end whilst still playing, he'll be returning on Saturday 6 August.

Also on the Saturday night, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing traditional classics.

Swingin' with style

You can see Frank, Sammy and Dean on Sunday 7 August, as The Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas comes to the Abbey.

Party with The Rat Pack at the Extravaganza

Taking you back to those glitzy, glamorous nights in Las Vegas, the show is a live performance and includes songs such as Mr Bojangles, Fly Me to the Moon, and My Way.

Michael Eavis said: "This is the London show on tour, so it's the same one that's on in the West End - we've got the showgirls, the dancers, and everything.

"The Extravaganza is great fun. It has a fantastic party feel, and it's a really special occasion."

A variety of ticket options are available, and they can be booked now - remember that picnics and flags are a must for this event!

Will be on holiday in England too late to attend this year. Last years Royal Philharmonic/Nigel Kennedy performance was awesome! Does anyone know if there's a DVD available?
