BBC World Book Club is coming to Edinburgh this August! 

The BBC’s Queen of Literature, Harriett Gilbert, is coming to The Edinburgh Bookshop on Wednesday 28 August at 6.30pm for a special live recording with Pulitzer Prize nominated writer Daniyal Mueenuddin.

They’ll be discussing his eagerly awaited debut novel This Is Where The Serpent Lives, and we want you to be part of the show.

This Is Where the Serpent Lives is a rich and compelling portrait of contemporary Pakistan, following the intertwined lives of unforgettable characters whose fortunes are shaped by love, ambition, loyalty and betrayal. Set against the backdrop of a vast rural estate, the novel explores the lives of servants and landowners, dreamers and opportunists, as they navigate systems of class, power and privilege.

With extraordinary insight and compassion, Daniyal Mueenuddin brings to life a world where every choice carries consequences, and where the pursuit of a better future often comes into conflict with questions of morality, survival and belonging. It's a novel that offers a deeply human exploration of the forces that shape our lives and the societies we live in.
