X-Time and Ghix
X-Time and Ghix talk about the beat that unexpectedly catapulted them to fame in Benin, and how their adjapiano sound is a bridge between the modern and ancient country.
Imagine playing around in the studio one day and uploading a new beat to your WhatsApp status – only to find it’s blown up overnight into a national hit? That’s what happened to musicians X-Time and Ghix from Benin in 2023, when they worked with Rauny Da Beatmaker to create the new sound of adjapiano.
X-Time tells This is Africa how blending traditional Gogohoun rhythms with the logdrum of South Africa’s amapiano just seemed to work like magic. And Ghix talks about how the new genre is now deeply ingrained in the country, and is a bridge between modern and ancient Benin.
Plus DJ Edu the Afroboss plays new tunes from Zambia, Gabon and DR Congo.
