The love that moved mountains

Alexis Massol González and Tinti Deyá Díaz grew up in the lush mountain town of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. When mining companies came for those mountains, they decided to fight back, and the couple say they endured years of state surveillance and persecution. Eventually they won their fight, and the site of the proposed mine is now known as the People's Forest. Tinti died in 2021, but Alexis is still dedicated to keeping her memory alive.

Professor David George Haskell is a big fan of trees. For one project he chronicled a single year in the life of a one-metre-wide patch of forest in the American state of Tennessee, examining each moment of its life in detail. Then he set himself a new task - to visit 12 different species of tree around the world, from olive groves in Jerusalem to bonsai trees in Japan to examine their connections to the world and also record their sounds. David George Haskell's book is 'The Songs Of Trees'. First broadcast in 2016.
