Lee James is in Toronto for the second stop of Sportsworld’s World Cup tour, bringing you the colour and atmosphere the morning after Ivory Coast’s game against four-time winners Germany in the Canadian city.
Lee will be joined by two of Canada’s greatest sporting stars – football legend and Olympic champion Christine Sinclair and double Olympic champion and former men’s 100m world record holder Donovan Bailey.
The big talking points from the World Cup will be covered by former Canada captain David Edgar and Canadian commentator Matt Cullen, including World Cup debutants Cape Verde who caused one of the shocks of the tournament so far when they held Spain to a goalless draw in their opening game. Former Cape Verde international Georges Santos speaks to Sportsworld ahead of their second match against Uruguay, and there’s also insight from former Canada and Premier League striker Tomasz Radzinski.
As Sportsworld is in Toronto, there will be a look at the city and country’s sporting heritage; from finding out more about Toronto’s NBA and MLB teams with Canadian broadcaster Lindsay Dunn to hearing from Canada’s sporting stars. Eleven years on from hosting the Women’s World Cup, what was the legacy of Canada hosting the tournament? That is a talking point for Sportsworld, plus is Vancouver Whitecaps’ future away from Canada?
John Bennett will be providing updates from Spain versus Saudi Arabia and there’s previews to the rest of Sunday’s games. Sportsworld also speaks to fans to find out about the fan experience at the World Cup.
Away from the World Cup, there will also be the latest from the world of sport including the men’s US Open golf, Queen’s tennis and the latest from the Women’s T20 World Cup and the second Test between England and New Zealand.
