
Ethiopian PM declares state of emergency in Tigray

Ethiopia's government says military operations have begun in Tigray. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed has declared a state of emergency there, accusing the region's local government of attacking federal troops. Relations between Addis Ababa and politicians in Tigray deteriorated after the region organised local elections, despite an earlier federal decision to postpone all polls due to the coronavirus pandemic.
