Catherine Hamlin: Grief in Ethiopia as trailblazing doctor dies
Reports and analysis of the day's political, economic and sports news from across Africa.
Dr Catherine Hamlin, a gynaecologist considered a national hero in Ethiopia and indeed celebrated all over the world, has died at the age of 96.
Dr Hamlin devoted her life to treating women suffering from the effects of obstetric fistula, a devastating injury, a hole in the birth canal, sustained in childbirth. Originally from Australia, she moved to Ethiopia with her husband 60 years ago and together they founded a fistula hospital in the capital.
Plus, Malawi's main opposition parties come together to take on the government ahead of forthcoming elections.
And, how governments are turning to religious leaders to help enforce social distancing and limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
