G5 Sahel summit to discuss security deterioration

Casualties from attacks in Sahel region have reportedly increased fivefold since 2016

Mali, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mauritania meet France president Macron to discuss how to stop the fast deteriorating security crisis in the Sahel region. But with the number of fatalities growing more than ever, what solutions will be on the table? The BBC's Lamine Konkobo is in Pau, where the summit is taking place. We also speak to Hassane Hamadou from the NGO Norwegian Refugee Council, who shines a light on the number of civilian lives lost during the attacks.

Three Kenyan teachers have been killed by suspected al-Shabab militants in an attack on a school near the country's north-eastern border with Somalia. The militants also attacked a telecommunications mast and set fire to a police station. Our correspondent Ferdinand Omondi gives us the latest.

In Lesotho, a standoff between the police and the first lady, Maesaiah Thabane, has been ongoing since Friday. The police want to question Mrs Thabane about the killing of Lesotho's Prime Minister Lipolelo Thabane.
