Ethiopia passes gun control law to curb insecurity
Reports and analysis of the day's political, economic and sports news from across Africa.
Ethiopia hopes the Firearm Administration and Control proclamation, passed into law by the country’s upper house of parliament on Thursday, will help curb insecurity in the country.
The legislation stipulates up to three years' imprisonment for those carrying a weapon illegally and up to 15 years for illegal bulk sales.
The business of selling coffins at the Hospital mortuary has been banned by the mayor of Lusaka Zambia, described as insensitive and likely to traumatise patients and their loved ones.
