Botswana: Incumbent sees off opposition challenge

As President Masisi's party secures the most seats in parliament

Botswana's incumbent President Mokgweetsi Masisi has won a five-year term after his Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secured a majority of the seats in the national assembly, according to the chief justice.

In Uganda, several students are reported to have been injured after the military carried out a night-time raid at the halls of residence at Makerere University in the capital, Kampala.

Activists and opposition politicians and have expressed outrage, following revelations that several students have been hospitalised after being beaten by soldiers.
