Russia seeks to strengthen relations with Africa

As the first ever Russia-Africa summit gets underway, President Putin has said trade with Africa could be at least doubled in the next four to five years. Moscow has been seeking to restore its influence on the continent, which has waned since the Cold War, and is selling itself as a long-standing dependable partner, an alternative to China's expanding presence in Africa.
